Cape Mount Beach lies on the Cape Mount peninsula at the town of Robertsport in western Liberia, about 16 km from the Sierra Leone border. The peninsula separates Lake Piso from the Atlantic Ocean. The place is known for long waves that draw surfers and for old ruins among the trees. The Portuguese navigator Pedro de Sintra reached this cape in the mid-15th century and named it Cabo do Monte after its high granite hill. Robertsport was founded in 1856 and named after Joseph Jenkins Roberts, Liberia's first president. It holds the ruins of the Tubman Center of African Culture, built in 1964, of which only walls and columns remain. You see a broad golden sand beach, white waves and a rusted ship stranded on the sand near the water. Among thick green trees stand the ruins of a large building with tall columns and worn red walls, and an old stone church. Forested hills rise behind. It is about 1 km from central Robertsport and about 81 km from Monrovia in a straight line. Currents are strong, so swim carefully near others. Keep out of crumbling ruins, and ask before taking photos.
