The Casa de Pedra, the Stone House, is a history museum in Caxias do Sul, opened on 14 February 1975 as part of the centenary of Italian immigration to Rio Grande do Sul. It is the city's most visited museum and one of its main sights. The house was built around 1880 by the Italian immigrant brothers Giacomo and Antonio Lucchese as a home for Giacomo and his family, with a living room and kitchen on the ground floor and bedrooms above. It is built almost entirely of basalt stones bound with clay, with pine openings, a typical example of Italian colonial architecture in the region. After many different uses, the city bought it in 1974 and restored it with the national heritage institute and local craftsmen skilled in traditional building methods. Its collection keeps the typical objects of daily life in immigrant homes. It was fully restored in 2000–2001, listed as city heritage in 2003, and its garden and orchard were revived in 2014.
