Casa Niemeyer is a house designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer and built in the early 1960s as his home in Brasília while he taught at its university, in the quiet Park Way district south of the city. He lived there from 1963 to 1965, when he was among the 223 professors who resigned from the University of Brasília after the military regime began. The house stood empty for about fifteen years until the University of Brasília bought it in 1980. In 2017 it reopened as a «university house of culture» linked to the House of Latin American Culture, becoming a venue for exhibitions and for spreading Latin American culture and art through research, debate and artistic production. The house is a rare example of Niemeyer's domestic architecture in the city whose most famous buildings he designed, with simple lines and openness to its garden. It hosts curated contemporary art exhibitions and artist residency programmes. Check current exhibitions and visiting times before going.
