A large nature and adventure park on the hillsides of western Mauritius, which began as a bird park in the late 1970s and has become one of the island's best-known family outings, with views over Tamarin Bay and the south-western mountains. The park offers vehicle safaris among giraffes, zebras, antelopes and rhinos, a bird park and giant tortoises, a giraffe-feeding platform and children's play areas. For thrill-seekers there are zip-lines over the valley, suspension bridges, quad bikes and treetop trails. The park also offers close encounters with big cats, which animal-welfare groups criticise, so the choice is yours. A ticket covers the park, with separate tickets for special activities, and prices differ for residents and foreigners. The park is sunny, so bring water and a hat, and allow at least half a day.
