Cavendish Beach is a broad sandy beach in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, facing the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It runs about eight kilometres from the mouth of New London Bay in the west to the red sandstone cliffs of Cavendish East, all within Prince Edward Island National Park. It is usually split into sections, among them Cavendish Spit, a barrier beach guarding the bay entrance, the campground beach and the busy main beach with large car parks and changing rooms. The island is known for its red soil and for the novel Anne of Green Gables, set here. You see wide golden-pink sand, low cliffs of dark red sandstone where blue waves break, and dunes covered in tall grasses. Old wooden posts of a ruined wharf stand on the beach, and green grass edges the clifftops. It is about 35 km from Charlottetown in a straight line. The water is fairly warm in August; do not climb the fragile cliffs.
