Aranhas Cave, the «Spiders», lies in the Caboclos nucleus of PETAR in Apiaí and is rated a geodiversity site of national importance, valued for education, recreation and ecology. The cave is on the Chapéu Trail, fitted out in the second half of the 1990s with steps, bridges and information signs, which also takes in the Chapéu and Chapéu Mirim I and II caves. According to the São Paulo state legislature, the Temimina cave and the Aranhas and Chapéu group are the caves open to visitors in the Caboclos nucleus. The Caboclos nucleus is cut off from the rest of PETAR, with its entrance about 75 kilometres from the Santana nucleus. It is quieter, and it is the only nucleus in the park with a campsite, which must be booked ahead. The nearest town is fairly far, so bring what you need and check the guide rules before going.
