Cerro Uritorco is the highest peak of Córdoba's Sierras Chicas, rising to 1,949 metres beside the Calabalumba river about three kilometres from the centre of Capilla del Monte. The town and the mountain are known for stories of strange lights and UFO sightings told by locals and visitors, which have become part of the place's character and trade. The mountain is privately managed and the climb charges a fee, on an unguided trail of medium difficulty, 10 to 12 kilometres there and back, about four hours up and three down. The summit looks out over the Punilla valley and the surrounding hills. To reach the top you must start between 08:00 and 11:00 and begin the descent before 15:00. Children under 8 and pregnant women may not climb. Carry plenty of water and avoid very hot or stormy days.
