Champagne Beach is powder-soft white sand and clear turquoise water on a calm bay in eastern Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu's largest island. Green forest runs down to the sand, with a green headland wrapping the bay. The beach is near the village of Hog Harbour. Its name is said to come from the shape of its shore. It is famous for very clear water that is good for snorkelling, and tourists and cruise passengers from Australia visit it regularly. You walk the white sand with shallow, clear water in shades of blue and forest behind you. You swim gently in the sheltered bay, seeing fish below. It is quieter on days when no cruise ship arrives. The beach is about 41 km in a straight line north of Luganville. The official tourism site gives a day pass of 2,000 vatu per vehicle. The beach belongs to the village, so respect their land and dress modestly away from the sand.
