Thailand's largest market, often described as the biggest weekend market in the world: more than fifteen thousand stalls in twenty-seven sections, drawing over two hundred thousand people every weekend. Locals call it JJ Market. It has everything imaginable: clothes, shoes and bags, antiques, furniture and homeware, ceramics and handicrafts, plants, books, and food and drink of every kind. It is an excellent place to buy gifts and souvenirs far more cheaply than in the malls, with bargaining. Entry is free; the main market opens on Saturday and Sunday from morning to evening, with the plant section open on other days. The lanes are narrow, crowded and hot, so bring water and a hat, and come early. The market is next to the Chatuchak Park metro and Mo Chit Skytrain stations, so it is easy to reach. Pick up a map at the information office or photograph the section board, as it is easy to get lost. There are halal food stalls run by Thai Muslims inside the market.
