A historic Huizhou village in a basin ringed by eight peaks, on the Congchuan stream. It was founded by the Luo family, who came from Nanchang at the end of the Tang dynasty, when two cousins settled the front and rear villages, and its site and lanes were laid out by feng shui principles, which earned it the name «Bagua village». It keeps many Ming and Qing buildings, twenty of them listed as national monuments in 2001. The finest is the Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall, the largest hall of the family's front branch, begun in the 16th century and finished about seventy years later and a national monument since 1996; there is also the stone Huanxiu Bridge and lanes of white-walled houses with stepped gables. Tickets cost CNY 103, about 94 online, and it is open from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, per visitor guides. It lies about 25 km north of Tunxi, the centre of Huangshan city.
