Cingjing Farm is a tourist mountain farm in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, at 1,700 to 2,000 metres and spread over 760 hectares. It is one of the three best-known high mountain farms in Taiwan, drawing visitors for its sheep pastures, cool air and wide mountain views. The farm was established on 20 February 1961 as a settlement for demobilised soldiers and their families. It became a tourist destination over time, surrounded by hotels and guest houses that sometimes copy European styles. The average daily temperature is about 16 °C, which makes it a favourite escape from summer heat on the plains. Its best-known part is the Green Green Grasslands, grassy hills dotted with sheep in front of ridge after ridge. Shows here feature a flock driven by a rider, and visitors can get close to the sheep in the pens. There is also the Small Swiss Garden, the visitor centre and Shoushan Park. Wooden walkways give open views of the valley, and mist is common in the afternoon. The farm is 49.6 km in a straight line east of Taichung and 14.4 km south-west of Hehuanshan, so many visitors combine them. Buses run from the Taichung train and high-speed rail stations. The winding mountain road can bring on car sickness. Bring a jacket, as it cools quickly. Weekends get very crowded, so go early or midweek.
