Colonia Suiza is a small village in the forests of Nahuel Huapi National Park west of Bariloche, founded by immigrant families from Switzerland in the late 19th century. It keeps a rural mountain feel, with old wooden houses, gardens and meadows among the peaks near Lake Moreno and Cerro López. On set days of the week the village holds a craft market where artisans sell woodwork, woollens, jams and homemade sweets, and there are country restaurants and cafés. The trail up Cerro López, one of the area's finest, starts here. Wandering is free. Visitors arrive by car or city bus from Bariloche, and it usually pairs with the nearby Circuito Chico loop.
