Costa do Sauípe is a large resort complex on the north coast of Bahia, in the Sauípe district of Mata de São João, about 76 kilometres from Salvador airport, and is described as the largest tourist complex in Brazil. It brings together five hotels and five pousadas on 176 hectares between a long coconut-lined beach and the Sauípe River, whose Tupi name means «on the river of the marmosets». Few people live here permanently, since homes are very expensive and almost the whole area is taken up by hotels; it is now run by the Rio Quente Resorts group. Thanks to its size it hosted the Brasil Open tennis tournament from 2001 to 2011 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup draw, and tennis returned with a new tournament in 2025. It suits all-inclusive holidays on the «Coconut Coast», and visitors staying in Salvador can see it in a day.
