The Posadas riverfront, officially the Costanera Monseñor Kemerer, is a long avenue on the bank of the broad Paraná in the capital of Misiones; its first section opened in 1999 and it now runs more than eight kilometres. Facing it on the far bank is Encarnación in Paraguay, linked by the San Roque González de Santa Cruz bridge. It is the heart of the city's social life: paths for walking, running and cycling, benches, viewpoints and small river beaches, an open-air amphitheatre and food stalls. In the evening it fills with families and young people drinking tereré, the cold mate common in the region, and watching the sun set over the river. The riverfront is free and always open, loveliest in the evening, as summer days are very hot.
