Don't measure it against Valencia's whales โ its value is specialisation: the very sea you swim tomorrow, shown with real Greek science. As a family week in Crete it is your ready conditioned half-day โ as a world aquarium collector, it is nice, not great.

CretAquarium is the eastern Mediterranean's largest aquarium โ and its only specialist: sixty tanks for two hundred exclusively Mediterranean species, built by Greece's marine research institute (2005) on a former American base โ science before show: sand sharks, rays, octopus, monk-seal neighbours and a dark hall of glowing jellyfish pure magic. Its strength is presentation: interactive screens (Arabic sometimes among the languages โ check) and daily feeding rounds on posted times โ with an open touch tank of starfish for the small. It is the family's refuge from noon sun or a wind day: ninety conditioned minutes on the airport-Malia road (the Hersonissos bus passes it) โ pairing practically with the east coast's beaches after.
