The Dragon Caves are the Mediterranean's most famous underworld: two kilometres of masterfully lit stalactites ending at Lake Martel โ among Earth's largest underground lakes (177 metres) โ and the rite that made the fame: lights die, and out of darkness glide illuminated boats whose musicians play floating classics, after which you may cross the lake by boat yourself. The short concert has come with the ticket for a century โ a 1935 idea that never aged โ and the path is railed and easy throughout. On the east coast by Porto Cristo (an hour's drive or direct bus from Palma) โ the classic eastern day trip, completed by the harbour town and its beach.
