A park on the shore of Dian Lake in southwest Kunming where locals sit over tea, fly kites and go boating among shady walks, pools and bridges, best known for its Daguan or «Grand View» Pavilion. The pavilion is a square, three-storey building put up under the Qing so that people could enjoy the view of the Western Hills across the lake, and it now holds a collection of calligraphy praising the area's beauty. On its south gate hangs the park's most famous treasure: the «long couplet» written by the scholar Sun Ran in the Qianlong era, 180 characters long and nicknamed «the longest couplet under heaven», describing the beauty of Dian Lake and the history of Yunnan. Entry is free, 07:00–19:00, per visitor guides. Seasonal flower shows are held here, and mornings are best, when locals are out exercising.
