The DalĂ Theatre-Museum is not a museum about DalĂ â it is DalĂ: his greatest single work, as he called it, built by his own hands and imagination over his hometown's burnt theatre in Figueres, a glass dome above crimson walls crowned with giant eggs, himself buried at its heart â so you are literally walking inside Salvador DalĂ's head. Every hall is a visual trap: a car that rains inside, a room becoming an actress's face as you climb the stair, paintings transforming with lens and distance, a ceiling swallowing you feet-first â four floors of masterful illusion making the visit a discovery game that suits even museum-refusers. From Barcelona a direct train runs about an hour to Figueres plus a short walk â the city's finest artistic day trip, completed by white-washed coastal CadaquĂ©s for those with a car.
