Daman-e-Koh is a hilltop garden north of Islamabad, in the middle of the Margalla Hills, and one of the capital's favourite outings for residents and visitors. Its Persian name means «foothills», and it lies about 2 km in a straight line from the Faisal Mosque. The garden sits about 731 metres above sea level, some 152 metres above Islamabad. It is on the road to higher Pir Sohawa, a narrow, winding route, and the viewpoint can also be reached on foot along Trail 2. From the southern terrace a panorama opens over the whole city, its straight avenues and the Faisal Mosque. Pine woods, stone paths and flowerbeds surround the garden, and monkeys used to visitors' snacks are everywhere. Do not feed the monkeys, and keep food out of reach. The narrow road gets busy at weekends, so come on a weekday, or at sunset for the best view of the city lights coming on below.
