One of Shenzhen's largest beaches, on the northern shore of Mirs Bay in Yantian District east of the city, opened to the public in 1999, a long strip of golden sand ringed by green hills. The beach has a seaside park with paths, sculptures and lawns, overlooked by a resort and hotels, and nearby stands the famous Vanke Center, nicknamed the «horizontal skyscraper». City people come to stroll the sand and sit on the promenade; it gets very crowded on summer holidays, while ordinary days are calmer and better for families. Entry is free with a reservation a day ahead on the beach's booking system, open 06:30–23:00, per visitor guides. The ride from the city centre takes about an hour; avoid summer weekends.
