A private museum in a large building styled on Tozeur's traditional palaces, showing Tunisian life in past centuries. Founded by the businessman Abderrazak Cheraït, it holds collections of costumes, jewellery, furniture, tableware and manuscripts. Room after room reconstructs traditional Tunisian interiors, from reception halls in the beys' palaces to kitchens and baths, and from the life of urban notables to Bedouin life in the south, with figures and original objects. Next to the museum, a separate show uses figures and lighting to tell tales from the Thousand and One Nights and stories from Arab history, popular with families and children, with its own ticket. Tickets are sold at the door, each section separately, per visitor guides. The museum is a good choice for the hot middle of the day, before heading out to the oasis or the medina in the late afternoon.
