Dartlo is a mountain village in the historical region of Tusheti in northeast Georgia, part of Akhmeta Municipality in Kakheti, about 9 km northwest of Omalo in a straight line and about 12 km by road. The village is known for its historic stone towers and houses and its small church. According to the 2014 census it had no permanent residents, down from nine in 2002, but house owners return in summer and some open guesthouses. Houses built of stacked grey stone slabs, with long wooden balconies and stone roofs, step up a green slope above the Pirikiti Alazani river. A slender stone defence tower rises among them, and Caucasus mountains covered in meadows and forest surround the village. Visitors walk or ride horses from Omalo along the dirt road beside the river, wander among the stone houses, and some continue to villages further up the valley. The road into Tusheti is usually open only in summer.
