Dickenson Bay is a long white sand beach on Antigua's north-west coast, near McKinnon's. Its water is calm and clear, with palms and trees on the sand, and it is one of the liveliest beaches on the island. Large hotels, beach restaurants, bars and water-sports stands line the bay, so it is not secluded. Offshore lie small uninhabited islands and a coral reef about 1.6 km long. Runaway Beach is part of the bay. You walk the long white sand, with calm water good for swimming and families. Small sailing dinghies sit on the beach and green islands on the horizon. Short boat trips go out to the nearby reef to snorkel over coral and bright fish. Late in the day the sun sets over the sea and the beach fills up around the restaurants. The bay is 4 km in a straight line north of St John's. Entry is free, though chairs and umbrellas cost extra. Keep your belongings safe and do not leave them alone on the sand.
