A green mountain in the Dayunwu range east of Zhaoqing and one of Guangdong's four famous mountains, covered in old-growth forest with waterfalls and streams; China's first nature reserve was founded here in 1956, and it was among the first research stations of UNESCO's «Man and the Biosphere» programme from 1979. The mountain holds more than 500 plant species, 23 of them rare and protected, along with 178 bird and 38 mammal species, earning it the name «living museum of nature»; visitors follow shady paths through the trees to waterfalls, pools and the high Dingyuan Lake, and take boats in the Butterfly Valley. Tickets cost CNY 70, the area is open from 8 am to 6 pm, and the Butterfly Valley boat costs extra, per visitor guides.
