Over the sea and the boats.
A small shrine on a rocky outcrop at the mouth of the Duong Dong River, beside the town harbour, dedicated to the guardian spirits that local fishermen believe protect them at sea. The present building dates from 1937 and was renovated in 1997, though a shrine is said to have stood on the rock since the seventeenth century, and a small lighthouse tower stands on the rock beside it. Twenty-nine stone steps lead up to the shrine and a terrace overlooking the sea, the fishing boats coming into the river and the beaches of the west coast; it is one of the most popular places on the island to watch the sunset. The shrine is a working place of worship, so dress modestly and do not climb on the altars. The Duong Dong night market and the town's seafood restaurants are a few minutes' walk away.
