An open-air shopping, dining and entertainment complex at Walt Disney World, spread over 49 hectares around a lake. It first opened in 1975 under another name, and after several expansions and new names it became Disney Springs in 2015. It is divided into four areas: the Marketplace with Disney's biggest stores, The Landing on the lakeshore, Town Center with architecture inspired by old Florida towns, and the West Side with its theatres and entertainment. Visitors stroll among waterways, bridges and man-made springs; water taxis and buses bring them from the resort hotels, a tethered balloon rises over the whole resort, and street performers appear in the evening. Entry is free and needs no ticket, and parking is usually free. It is a good choice for an evening after a day in the parks, with plenty of restaurants; ask about halal.
