A valley in the Western Tatras southwest of Zakopane, among the shortest in the region and the easiest to reach. The valley is walled by limestone cliffs on both sides, its floor a wide meadow broken by pine forest. The main path through it is largely level and requires no climbing, which makes it suitable for anyone who wants the Tatras without a hard ascent. At its upper end lies Małołączniak, a high pasture with old shepherds' huts; these valleys were used for grazing sheep for centuries — the origin of the shepherd culture that shaped the whole region's identity, from its cheese to its music to its timber architecture. A curious feature of the valley: its stream dries and returns periodically, because the water sinks into the limestone, runs underground and re-emerges further on. Entry to the national park is by a ticket paid at the entrance. Paths are colour-marked and you must stay on them — leaving the marked routes is forbidden in the park. Seasonal: some paths close in winter or during the animals' breeding season.

Staying on marked paths is compulsory; picking plants, lighting fires and sleeping outside designated shelters are forbidden, and dogs are not allowed. Fees are paid at the valley entrances. The rules are actually enforced and there are rangers — the park is a nature reserve rather than an open recreation area.
Reasonably well, and that is what sets this valley apart: the main path is level, relatively short and needs no climbing. Allow three hours there and back with stops. Take water and food, as there are no facilities in the valley, and layers, because mountain weather changes fast.
