A broad freshwater lake south-east of Ningbo covering some 20 square kilometres, ringed by green hills and villages, and a favourite weekend escape for people from the city. Visitors cycle around it on long shoreline paths or take boats out on the water, and wander through the old village of Hanling on its shore, whose restored old street is now a market of local snacks and crafts, while fish restaurants and resorts dot the lakeside. The shores are open to walk, the Xiaoputuo area on the water is free from 7 am to 6 pm, and boats cost extra, per visitor guides.
