Dorob is a desert national park on Namibia's central coast, between the sand dunes and the Atlantic. Flat golden sand, soft dunes, scattered dark rocks and a few green shrubs fill the landscape, and fog rolls in from the sea in the morning. The park was declared on 1 December 2010, and its name means «dry land». It runs from the Kuiseb delta south of Walvis Bay north to the Ugab River, and inland from the ocean. It includes the Walvis Bay Lagoon, a Ramsar site, and the belt of dunes and gravel plains between the Swakop and Kuiseb rivers. Some 75 bird species visit this coast, with about 1.6 million birds recorded. You drive the coast road between the dunes and the ocean, stop to see rocks and desert plants, walk on the dunes and watch birds along the shore. The park's mapped point is about 123 km in a straight line north of Swakopmund, and the park runs along the coast around the town. Stay on roads and marked tracks to protect the fragile desert.
