Dschang Municipal Lake is a reservoir in the town of Dschang in Cameroon's western highlands. It sits at about 1,386 metres, so the air is much cooler than on the coast. It is a quiet green space for walking and sitting, close to the town's well-known Museum of Civilisations and Pleasure Bridge. The lake was created in the 1960s by damming water and became part of Dschang's layout and scenery. It covers about 40 hectares and measures some 850 metres by 200. Dschang is a university town and the centre of the Menoua division, surrounded by green hills and tea and vegetable farms. You see calm water edged with floating leaves, reflecting the sky and hills. Along the shore runs a long paved walkway lined with green plants and lamp posts, ending at a small hut. In the early morning mist covers the water, and the trees look like dark shapes under a pale sun. It is about 2 km from central Dschang in a straight line and about 39 km from the Bandjoun Chiefdom. Early morning is the best time to visit. Combine it with the nearby Museum of Civilisations, and bring a light jacket.
