The largest natural flower garden in the world, with more than a hundred and fifty million blooms arranged into shapes and structures — a full-size Airbus A380 covered in flowers, castles, hearts, arched walkways and cartoon characters. The paradox that makes it worth mentioning: this is a flower garden in the middle of a desert, drip-irrigated with treated water. Its existence is more of a spectacle than the flowers themselves. And here is the important warning: the garden closes completely in summer. The season runs roughly from mid-autumn to late spring, and it shuts in the heat because the flowers cannot survive it. Anyone visiting Dubai between May and September will not find it open, which catches a lot of people out. The best times are early morning at opening or shortly before sunset — fewer crowds and better light for photographs, which is the real purpose for most visitors. Next door is the Butterfly Garden, air-conditioned domes holding thousands of live butterflies, separately ticketed and open year-round. It sits well out from the centre with no metro nearby — a car or ride app is necessary. Two hours is enough, and the visit is photographic in nature rather than botanical.
