A 102-storey Art Deco skyscraper built in 1930–1931 on Fifth Avenue, with a roof height of 380 metres and a total height of 443.2 metres including its antenna. It was the world's tallest building until 1970. It is named after the Empire State, New York's nickname, and has become a global icon of the city, featured in more than 250 TV series and countless films, with its crown lit in changing colours at night for special occasions. About four million visitors a year ride up to its two decks: the open-air 86th floor, which wraps round the building with a 360-degree view of Manhattan, its rivers and bridges, and the glass-walled top deck on the 102nd floor, reached after an interactive exhibition on the building's history. The 86th floor starts at $44 for adults and the 102nd plus 86th floor ticket at $79, with a $5 booking charge per order, per the building's official site. Prices change by time slot and peak at sunset, and it stays open late into the night.
