Englishman's Bay is a quiet beach on the Caribbean coast of Tobago, between the villages of Castara and Parlatuvier. It is a crescent of sand between two headlands covered in thick forest running down from the Main Ridge, and many consider it one of the island's most beautiful beaches. Fewer people come here than to the beaches of the west end, so it stays calm. The sand starts right where the forest ends, slightly coarse, and the beach changes little with the tide. The waves break hard at the shore. You first see the bay from the mountain road above, blue and green water between the trees, then go down to the sand. At one end are a small restaurant and gift shop, a craft stall and a simple toilet. Do not expect many facilities. The bay is 14 km in a straight line north-east of Scarborough, on a winding road. Entry is free. A sign at the entrance says the beach has no lifeguards or security and has currents, so stay close to shore, keep your belongings safe and do not go alone.
