**A rock island rising more than four hundred metres straight out of the sea off the west coast — and landing on it is not allowed** — seen from the cliffs opposite. ⚠ **The scale deceives**: **the rock rises **413 metres** directly from the water** — **with no beach and no foot**; ✅ **and it is a closed nature reserve**, **holding endemic lizards and seabirds**. ⚠ **Many legends attach to it**: **unnatural magnetism, lights, and a connection with Atlantis** — ⚠ **none of which has any scientific basis**; ✅ **and the stories belong to the island's modern culture rather than its history**. ✅ **The real spectacle is the sunset**: **the sun goes down directly behind the rock** from the viewpoints on the coast. ⚠ **Reached by car to small car parks on dirt tracks.**

**Yes for anything outside Ibiza town — the buses reach only the larger beaches.** ✅ **What needs no car**: **Ibiza town, Dalt Vila, the port and Puig des Molins** — ✅ **all walkable**; **and the larger beaches (Playa d'en Bossa, San Antonio, Santa Eulalia)** ⚠ **are served by regular, cheap buses**. ✅ **The bus network is good on the main lines** — **frequent in summer**, ⚠ **and much reduced in winter**. ✅ **What needs a car**: ⚠ **the rural north (Sant Joan, Santa Agnès)** — **buses are very rare**; **and Es Vedrà and its viewpoints**, **and the small coves (Cala Comte, Cala Salada, Cala Xarraca)** — ⚠ **some with no service at all**. ✅ **⚠ And an important summer warning**: **the small coves' car parks fill before 10:00** — ⚠ **and some are barriered off when full**; ✅ **so go very early or after 17:00**. ⚠ **And car hire in July and August is very expensive and books months ahead.** ✅ **A good alternative: **the passenger boats**** — **regular services between Ibiza town, Formentera and the beaches**, ✅ **more enjoyable than the bus and needing no parking**. ⚠ **Scooters are common** — ✅ **practical**, ⚠ **but the dirt tracks are dangerous on one**.
