A museum in Jumeirah, Dubai, on the site historically called Union House, where the rulers of the emirates signed the constitution, raised the first flag and declared the United Arab Emirates on 2 December 1971. It is one of three «union sites» the country honours for their role in its founding. Moriyama & Teshima Architects designed the building as a manuscript, with seven columns at the entrance shaped like the pens used to sign the constitution. It has eight permanent pavilions, including a documentary film on the country's history, a panoramic interactive map of the era before the union and an interactive timeline. The museum shows founding documents and the constitution, old passports and personal belongings of the rulers of the emirates. On the site is the historic guesthouse with the round room where the meetings took place, and a tall flagpole in the square. Tickets are about 25 AED for adults, per visitor guides; the museum is run by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. Check opening times before you go.
