A farm in the town of Nakafurano near Furano and one of Hokkaido's most visited sights, famous for its broad lavender fields and the stripes of coloured flowers that run across the hillsides in summer. The lavender usually peaks in July, between late June and early August, alongside long stripes of red, orange, yellow and white flowers, with the Tokachi mountain range behind. The farm makes lavender products: essential oils, perfumes, soaps and foods, including lavender soft-serve, and has greenhouses where lavender blooms out of season. Entry and parking are free, and the shops open from about 9:00 to 17:00 on hours that change with the seasons, per visitor guides. In lavender season a seasonal station, Lavender-Batake, opens nearby; early morning, before the tour buses, is the best time.
