A man-made lake in north-west Udaipur, north of Lake Pichola, built in the 1680s and named after Maharana Fateh Singh, who rebuilt its dam; it is one of the city's four main lakes. Green hills surround it, and it holds three small islands, the largest being Nehru Park, reached by boat; another carries a solar observatory, and the Monsoon Palace looks down on the lake from its hilltop. On its eastern shore runs the popular Fateh Sagar Pal promenade, where locals gather in the evening to walk and watch the sunset, with snack and drink stalls, speedboats and pedal boats. Walking the shore is free at any time, while boats are ticketed. Sunset and evening are best, and it pairs well with the nearby Saheliyon-ki-Bari garden.
