Fazenda Engenho d'Água, the «Water Mill Farm», is a historic estate on Ilhabela island, now the Engenho d'Água Farm Municipal Park. Its origins date to the late 18th or early 19th century, when sugar production flourished on the north coast; it was a cane farm with a water-driven mill. The estate changed hands several times, and cane growing resumed there after 1939 until the 1970s. In 2015 the city of Ilhabela bought it, with the main house, the water mill, the aqueduct and a small dam, and other buildings including the old school for the workers' children and the horse stables. It opened to the public in September 2021 with a permanent exhibition of 24 panels on the history of the farm and the island's mills. The main building combined work and living quarters, its upper floor with a veranda facing the sea, reached by a side stair, from which the farm's work could be overseen. Entry is usually free; check the hours.
