Centuries old.
Pacotuba National Forest is an Atlantic Forest reserve in the Pacotuba district of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim in southern Espírito Santo, a few kilometres from the town centre, covering about 450 hectares. Its best-known feature is a trail among centuries-old trees, led by a giant pink jequitibá estimated to be about four hundred years old, looked after by technicians of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, which manages the forest. The institute's team maintains and signposts the trails, provides environmental interpretation, welcomes visitors and schedules visits; the forest headquarters is on the road to Monte Alegre at kilometre 1.2. Contact the office before going to arrange your visit, wear comfortable clothing and bring insect repellent.
