A metro station counted among the world's most beautiful, thanks to the Dome of Light, a huge stained-glass artwork by the Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata covering the ceiling of the wide round concourse, one of the largest glass works in the world. The dome is made of thousands of coloured glass panels in blue, red, yellow and green, telling the story of life in four stages: water and the womb, growth and flourishing, fire and destruction, and rebirth and renewal. Huge cylindrical columns clad in glowing glass hold it up. Visitors stand in the middle of the concourse and look up to see the colours glow under the lights; at set times a short light and music show plays, and musicians sometimes perform in the hall. The concourse is in the station's public area, so no metro ticket is needed to see it, and it is open whenever the metro runs. Southern Taiwan is hot and humid most of the year, so carry water and a hat; winter is the mildest season for sightseeing.
