Foroglio is a small village in the municipality of Cevio in the Vallemaggia district of the canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland, in the Val Bavona, about 30 km northwest of Locarno and 42 km west of Bellinzona in a straight line. The village is known for its traditional stone houses of the Val Bavona and for its waterfall, which drops from a high cliff right behind the houses, as well as a small church and an old oratory. It is among the loveliest valley villages in Ticino, and the view of the falls above its stone roofs is one of southern Switzerland's best-known scenes. Grey stone houses with roofs of stone slabs cluster at the foot of a towering, forested rock wall, as the white waterfall plunges from the top of the cliff in a long thread before running between huge boulders towards the river. Green meadows and trees surround the village. Visitors walk from the car park over a small bridge into the village, approach the foot of the falls across the rocks and sit in the local restaurant. The falls are strongest in spring and after rain; the valley is quiet and its roads narrow.
