Front Beach, Bai Truoc, is a neat crescent of sand in the heart of Vung Tau between Big Mountain and Small Mountain. Its other name, Tam Duong, means seeking the sun, and it was once known as Coconut Bay. Quang Trung Street runs alongside, with gardens, hotels and shopping centres. It is a beach for strolling rather than swimming: fishing boats moor here, people gather on the promenade at sunset as the sun drops over the water, and early in the morning residents exercise on the sand. From it you can see the White Palace on the slope of Big Mountain and the lighthouse on top of Small Mountain. It is the closest beach to the hotels in the centre and a good starting point for a round of the White Palace and the lighthouse on foot or by a short ride. For swimming, head to Back Beach on the other side of the peninsula.

It is better for strolling and sunsets, as boats moor there; for swimming, Back Beach on the east side is the better choice.
