Fulong Beach lies in Fulong Village, Gongliao District, New Taipei, on Taiwan's northeast coast at the mouth of the Shuang River, about 14 km southeast of Jiufen in a straight line. The beach opened to the public on 22 June 1975, first run by the railway administration and later by the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area. Its sand is golden, which is rare in Taiwan. The Shuang River splits the beach into inner and outer parts, linked by a footbridge called the Rainbow Bridge. Soft golden sand stretches between the calm green river and the blue sea, framed by green hills. Huge sand sculptures are displayed on the beach in summer, and since 2000 a summer music festival has been held here over several days, usually in mid-July. Visitors swim and laze on the sand in summer and cross the Rainbow Bridge between the two parts of the beach. There is a campsite nearby; summer is peak season, while the rest of the year is quiet and good for walking.
