An old town in Yongshun County, western Hunan, formerly called Wangcun and renamed Furong in 2007 after the famous film «Hibiscus Town», shot here in 1986. It was the seat of Youyang County under the Western Han, it is one of western Hunan's «four famous towns», and it is a national historic town. It is known as «the town hanging on a waterfall», because its Tujia-style timber stilt houses line the edge of a cliff from which a large waterfall pours, with stepped stone lanes running down towards the river; in the evening the houses above the falls are lit up. Tickets cost CNY 108 and are valid for three days, covering the old town, the waterfall and Tujia folk shows; it is open from 8 am to midnight, per visitor guides. Smoked pork is one of the area's best-known dishes, so ask about ingredients.
