Galičica National Park covers the mountain ridge between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, along with parts of both shores and Golem Grad, an island in Prespa. About two-thirds of it lies within the UNESCO-listed Ohrid region, it meets Albania's Prespa National Park to the south, and the Monastery of Saint Naum and the remains of the stilt village at the Bay of Bones lie inside its boundaries. The highlight for most visitors is the panoramic road that climbs from the Ohrid shore over the ridge towards Prespa: from the top you see both lakes at once, Ohrid to the west and Prespa to the east, with high meadows and limestone peaks around you. Walkers can climb Magaro, the highest summit of the range, from the pass, and the park asks climbers for a small peak fee. The road is open in summer but is often blocked by snow at the top in winter, so check before you go, and drivers may be asked for a park fee on the way. There are few facilities on the ridge, so take water, a windproof jacket and good shoes.
