The smallest and quietest of the three Gili islands, in the middle between Trawangan and Air, a round island ringed by white sand beaches and clear water. There are no cars, no noise and hardly any nightlife, so couples and families looking for rest and nature come here. Its best-known sights are the sea turtles seen in numbers around the island when snorkelling, the coral reefs close to shore, and underwater sculptures of a circle of human figures that have become one of the Gilis' most famous images. In the middle of the island is a small salt lake. There is no fee to enter the island; public and fast boats arrive from Bangsal harbour on Lombok and from Trawangan and Air. Services are simpler and hotels fewer than on Trawangan, so bring enough cash. Stay a night or two for complete calm, or visit on a snorkelling tour of all three islands in one day. The sun is strong, so bring sun cream and a hat.
