A museum of folk life in a group of medieval houses inside the Cittadella of Gozo, showing how the island's people lived before electricity and tourism reached them. The buildings are the first exhibit. These are houses of roughly the sixteenth century with stone windows, narrow stairs and low ceilings, among the few surviving in their original form on the island. Walking through them explains the climate: thick walls, small windows and internal courtyards, all solutions to summer heat. The collection is agricultural, craft and household equipment: mills, presses, a weaving loom, fishing gear and vessels. Gozo was poorer than Malta and more isolated, and its economy was agricultural until late, so the displays describe a genuine subsistence economy rather than crafts kept for show. Practical points: entry is ticketed and may fall within a combined Cittadella museums ticket — ask when buying. The museum is small and the visit half an hour to an hour. The stairs are narrow and steep and unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Inside the Cittadella, Victoria, Gozo
In practice, yes. The Cittadella is a complex holding several small museums, a cathedral and walls you can walk, and this house is one of them. Ask about the combined ticket if you will see more than one museum — and you probably will, since they are all within the same walls.
A full day at least, two is better. The ferry from Malta takes about twenty-five minutes and runs regularly. The Cittadella, the Ġgantija temples, Ramla Bay and the west coast are the essentials, and the island moves more slowly than Malta — do not squeeze it into a half day.
