Grand Anse Beach is the best-known beach in Grenada, a curve of white sand about 3 km long on Grand Anse Bay, south of the capital St George's. Its turquoise water is calm, shady trees line the sand, and the green hills and houses of the capital sit on the horizon. The beach is in Saint George parish on the island's south-west coast, with green volcanic mountains behind it. It is a public beach open to all, with hotels, small restaurants and a craft market along it, used by islanders and visitors alike. You walk the long white sand under sea-grape trees, with clear water that is calm on most days. From the northern end you see St George's and its hills across the bay. In the evening the sun sets over the sea. Boats leave from here for the nearby Underwater Sculpture Park. The beach is 4 km in a straight line south of St George's. Entry is free, though chairs cost extra. Keep your belongings safe and do not leave things alone on the sand.
