A garden in Xicheng, south-west Beijing, built in the 1980s to recreate the garden where the classic novel «Dream of the Red Chamber», the most celebrated work of classical Chinese fiction, is set. It was redesigned for the filming of the television series based on the novel and opened to visitors in October 1986. Its courtyards, halls, pavilions, rockeries and lakes follow the novel's descriptions closely, with more than forty scenes over 12.5 hectares, and the rooms are furnished as the novel's characters might have lived; a temple fair on the novel's themes is held at the Spring Festival. Tickets cost CNY 40, and it is open from 7.30 am to 6 pm from April to October and to 5 pm in winter, per visitor guides.
