The Gruta Rei do Mato, «Cave of the Forest King», lies beside highway BR-040 near Sete Lagoas, 70 km from Belo Horizonte. It runs 998 metres, 220 of them open to visitors, with four large chambers of stalactites and stalagmites; in the «Hall of Rarities» stand almost identical parallel calcite columns. It is seen on guided tours only, daily 8:30-17:00 with the last tour at 16:00. Tickets are about R$30, the minimum age is six and closed shoes are required.
